Body found on Effingham St. in Portsmouth

Portsmouth, Va.– According to Portsmouth police, the body of a 55-year-old man was found in the area of the 900 block of Effingham Street on Friday morning.

Police say several people who were traveling in the area called 911 after seeing the man lying on the ground unresponsive. 

When crews arrived, they say they found the man not breathing.  He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The victim’s body was transported to the Norfolk Medical Examiners Office for an autopsy.  Police say there were no apparent signs of foul play, however the investigation is ongoing.  

Detectives have identified the man as Alexander Harris, Jr. of Portsmouth.
